Lessons

Learning to fly a Microlight is not hard. First you learn to fly straight and level, then climb, descend and turn, followed by more advanced skills such as landing. The issuing of a Microlight Pilot Certificate requires a minimum training time of 20 hours flying, including a minimum of 5 hours solo flying. This of course varies depending on the individual.

Prior to going solo, students must pass a Pre Solo test which covers the rules of the air (e.g. where you may/may not fly, radio procedures, etc.) Before the issue of the Pilot’s Certificate students must pass the BAK (Basic Aeronautical Knowledge) exam.

Your Trial Instructional Flight – ranging from 15 minutes to 1 hour – counts towards Pilot Certificate training time.

The approximate cost of obtaining a Microlight Pilot Certificate is $3500 -$4000 (flying lessons, theory lessons, text book and HGFA membership).
